Selena Quintanilla was known to be the "Queen of Tejano," a type of music that was very popular throughout southern Texas. Selena was born on April 16, 1971 in Lake Jackson, Texas and made her recording debut in the 80s', where later she became an award-winning recording artist in the Latin music. She has popular albums such as Amor Prohibido and Dreaming of You. It was around the age of 9 when Selena's father discovered her talent for singing. He than formed a band where Selena was the main singer, her brother A.B. Quintanilla on the bass and her sister Suzette Quintanilla on drums. The group became Los Dinos, which was a band that Abraham Quintanilla, Selena's father, was in the 1950s and 1960s. In the 1981, that family loved to Corpus Christi where they started booking his band for parties and weddings. This is what became of their life and it wasn't till 1987 when Selena won the Tejano Music Award for Female Entertainer of the Year. That was the award that led Selena to a major record label contract with Capitol Records and the success of six albums.

In 1992, Selena started her clothing line and married the love of her life, Chris Perez, which was also her guitarist. In 1994, she was nominated and won her first Grammy for Best Mexican American album, Selena Live. This was also the year she opened her own boutique in Corpus Christi, Texas. On March 31, Selena was shot and killed by Yolanda Saldivar, the woman who was Selena's assistant and president of her fan club.

Many fans are still supporting Selena through her music that lives with in us all. Today her music is still being played throughout the United States and Latin America. In 2015 she was nominated as the Most Influential Artist on Social Media. That just shows how much her memory and music still lives today.
